Overview: Health care reform efforts by the government will include significant pressure on the health care industry, including laboratories, to adopt electronic health records (EHRs) and the electronic transfer of information of all kinds between health care provi
Clinical laboratories are central to nearly all kinds of health care providers, and as a result, will find themselves involved in this effort whether willingly or not. Labs have the unique distinction in health care as the only entity that was allowed to legally give computers, printers, software and provide interfaces to physicians and others for free prior to the issuance of the 2006 Stark Exception and Anti-kickback Safe Harbor that allows hospitals and others to provide those same kinds of items today. Find out how this change may affect labs and what compliance issues these changes will create for laboratories as more entities enter the EHR arena.
